Professor Ian de Boer

Dr. de Boer is Professor of Medicine, Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology, and Associate Director of the Kidney Research Institute at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. He is also a staff nephrologist at the Puget Sound Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, where he cares for patients with a broad range of acute and chronic kidney diseases. Dr. de Boer’s research focuses on the metabolic causes and consequences of chronic kidney disease, with particular interests in diabetes and vitamin D metabolism. Studies combine methods in epidemiology, physiology, and clinical trials. He has published over 350 manuscripts in this field. Dr. de Boer has also helped translate research to clinical care through clinical practice guidelines, including the American Diabetes Association Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes (as a member of the ADA Professional Practice Committee) and the KDIGO Clinical Practice Guideline on Diabetes and CKD (as Co-Chair). He serves as the Deputy Editor of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
