Professor Eric Renard
Professor of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism University of Montpellier, France
Eric Renard is Chair and Professor of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the medical school of the University of Montpellier, France, where he has held this position since 1999. He also leads the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition at Lapeyronie University Hospital and is Head of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) Clinical Research Centre at Montpellier University Hospital, Montpellier, France.
Professor Renard received his medical degree at Montpellier Medical School in 1987, completed a Research Fellowship (Arthur Sachs Scholarship) at Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA in 1992, and received his PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Montpellier in 1995.
Professor Renard recently participated in the European FP7 Projects ‘DIAdvisor’, ‘Bringing Artificial Pancreas at home’, BIOSID and in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)-sponsored Artificial Pancreas Project. He has also authored more than 220 peer-reviewed papers.
Professor Renard’s research interests include intensive insulin therapy aiming at physiological insulin delivery. He devoted a large part of his work on developing insulin pump therapy, investigating the use of intra-peritoneal insulin delivery and implantable pumps and closed-loop insulin delivery systems. Professor Renard currently leads a research team focusing on the ‘Determinants and correction of the loss of insulin secretion in diabetes’ at the Institute of Functional Genomics, University of Montpellier, France.
